The Aurora: A natural wonder of the world

The Aurora Borealis - also known as the Northern or Southern Lights (in the southern hemisphere) - is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the polar regions. It is a magnificent display of lights in the sky that leave both locals and tourists in awe. This stunning visual display is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena on Earth.

The Aurora has been named by several cultures after their mythical beliefs about the lights. In the Inuit culture, it is known as "Aqsarniit," while in Finland, the lights are called "Revontulet," meaning "fox fires." The Sami people regard it as the "Sámi and Áigin" or the "nightlight." The Aurora's beauty is the same across cultures, and its manifestation is awe-inspiring to all.

To witness an Aurora is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The colors of the lights range from green to purple to pink to blue. When the Aurora is at its peak, it almost feels like the sky is dancing, with waves and pulses of colors moving in rhythm. Nature's masterpiece provides a sense of tranquility, unmatchable by any other phenomenon.

The Aurora is caused by the interaction between charged particles from the Sun and the Earth's magnetic field. The lights are usually seen from September to March in the Northern Hemisphere and are visible from the Southern Hemisphere during the same time.

Visiting the Polar regions and experiencing the Aurora would be a dream come true for anyone. The experience is tranquil, relaxing, and breathtaking all at the same time. The beauty of the Aurora is undeniable. It's a reminder that nature has a way of rejuvenating our hearts and souls.

Witnessing the Aurora is a memory that will last a lifetime, and if you have the chance to see it, it's something you should definitely experience. If you would like to know more about the Aurora and how to capture images of it check out our Capturing the Aurora section.
