Our mini travel guide to the magic islands.
Getting here
Awesome you decided to take a trip to the magic islands! The islands are not that remote but getting to them can be longer than you think. I won’t go into to much detail on this subject but will mention the routes we taken and what to expect.
To and from the UK - When traveling back and forth from the UK my preference is Evenes (EVE Harstad/Narvik) to Oslo then onto Gatwick. The reason I choose this is time vs price balance. There is usually plenty of options with flights and connections. I park my car at the airport but getting from Evenes to Lofoten requires either a car or a bus. The fly bus service will stop from the 21 August 2023. At this moment I don’t know of any replacement service.
Methods of Travel to the Lofoten Islands:
1. Flights:
Travelers can fly to the Lofoten Islands by booking a flight to one of the major airports nearby, such as Bodø or Evenes. From there, they can take a connecting flight to Leknes or Svolvær, the two main airports in the Lofoten Islands.
2. Ferries:
Another option is to take a ferry from the mainland to the Lofoten Islands. Ferries operate from various ports, including Bodø, and provide a scenic way to reach the islands.
3. Trains:
While there are no direct train services to the Lofoten Islands, travelers can take a train to Bodø, a city on the mainland. From there, they can continue their journey by ferry or flight.
4. Car:
In my opinion the best option to explore the islands with the most possible freedom. Can be busy in peak season so best to book in advance.
Quickest Method of Travel:
Flying to the Lofoten Islands is the quickest way to reach the archipelago. Taking a flight from the nearest major airport to Leknes or Svolvær allows travelers to arrive at their destination within a few hours, depending on the connecting flights.
