Spots we can recommend

If you search for the Lofoten Islands you will find places like Reine at the top of the list… There is good reason to visit these spots but the islands have so much more to offer. If you're looking to discover lesser-known places, or visit some of the place we love then check out or favourites:

Volaandstinden hike. A classic hike overlooking the bridges to Fredvang. From these bridges it doesn't look possible to hike to the top but its deceptively easy from the other side. The views are spectacular.

Gimsøy - The picturesque fishing village of Gimsøy offers quiet beaches and authentic Lofoten charm. The village is located on the northeastern shore of the island of Gimsøya, southeast of the villages of Saupstad and Vinje. Gimsøy Wooden Church is located in the village and has an amazing backdrop. Vinje beach has a nice stretch of sand with plenty of space. It gets a little wave here when the big northerly storms hit. Also a great place for kitesurfing.. Worth a visit!

Unstad Beach - Known for its world-class surfing, Unstad Beach is a great spot to catch some waves without the crowds.

Henningsvær - This charming fishing village is a bit more well-known but still offers plenty of hidden corners to explore.

Kabelvåg - A historic town with plenty of authentic Norwegian architecture, Kabelvåg is a great spot to wander without the crowds..

To avoid the crowds, it's best to travel during the shoulder seasons (late spring or early fall) and to explore outside of typical tourist hotspots. Renting a car or bike can give you the freedom to discover new places on your own, or consider joining a guided tour that focuses on off-the-beaten-path locations. With a little bit of research and a willingness to explore, there are plenty of hidden gems to discover in Lofoten.
